2011 - Term 3

I have studied the topics taught in term 3 in primary school before, so I thought it would be the same thing. However, I found that there was much more to learn.

Topics:
  • Models and systems
    • Cell structures, functions and organisation
    • Diffusion and Osmosis
  • Energy
    • Photosynthesis (this was a revision of what was taught in primary school)
    • Respiration
    • Effects of heat
    • Thermal Energy
I learnt about the different organelles found in animal and plant cells, their functions, and the similarities and differences between them. I also learnt about diffusion and osmosis and how they are present in everyday life. I did a project on the stomach for the topic on digestion.

Differences between diffusion and osmosis

Diffusion is the movement of molecules from a region of their higher concentration to a region of their lower concentration, down a concentration gradient. Osmosis is the passage of water molecules from a region of their higher concentration to a region of lower concentration.
